Software problems associated with introduction of new common code

Abstract

A new common code for synoptic observations was introduced on 1 January 1982. This necessitated the update of the existing software for processing the data for national and inter-national exchange. The advantage~ of the new code with respect to telecommunication, the software problems and solutions associated with it and the problems that still exist have been discussed.
